Wedding FAQs
Frequently asked questions about resort weddings

Is the wedding a legal marriage, recognized in our state or country?
Yes, the marriage is a legal binding marriage, and once you have received your marriage certificate, you can register at your local courthouse (or take whatever steps are necessary to register the marriage in your home state). Symbolic marriages are sometimes also offered so be sure to request the legal marriage option if that is your desire.

Can we get married on the beach?
Absolutely! Beach weddings are available in the Caribbean and Hawaii, but usually not in Mexico.

What wedding locations are available?
The location is usually the couple's choice. Most properties offer a beach or garden location. Many wedding gazebos have beautiful garden locations with the ocean as a backdrop.  Some resorts offer a small chapel at an additional charge.

Are Catholic weddings available?
Catholic weddings can be arranged in many destinations. The Church will add many extra requirements to the planning stage and there will be additional fees.

May we bring our own minister or church leader?
You may bring your own Minister or Church Leader or have a guest speaker, but the ceremony must be performed by a licensed local official.

What flavor is the wedding cake?
Cake flavors vary by resort. Usually there is a choice of 3 flavors; chocolate, vanilla or Caribbean fruit cake. You may also order a custom cake at an additional charge.

What is the best way to travel with a wedding dress?
Any arrangement for transportation of a wedding dress should be discussed directly with your airline carrier.

Does the resort offer a steaming or pressing service for the wedding dress?
Most destinations offer off-property services that can handle the steaming of the dress. Prices are determined on the size, detail, and dress material.

When do we meet the wedding coordinator?
Upon arrival (either at the front desk or in your room), the bridal couple will receive a letter with an appointment date and time to meet with the on-site wedding coordinator. At your meeting, your Wedding Coordinator will review the arrangements, give you a tour of the wedding locations, and help you choose the perfect one.

What kind of flowers are in the bridal bouquet?
Tropical floral bouquets are chosen on property. The couple is shown pictures of available flower combinations. Tropical bouquets vary per island and time of the year. Custom bouquets may be ordered at customary prices.

Do we need to hand carry documents to the resort?
This requirement varies. Many resorts require documents to be faxed ahead of time and then hand carried. At some destinations ~ Jamaica, for example ~ your documents are sent to the property in advance and they secure the marriage license prior to your arrival. A big plus since this eliminates the need for you to visit the registrar personally to secure the license.

May we bring our own wedding music?
Resorts generally provide a selection of pre-recorded music. However, you are welcome to bring your own wedding music CDs.

Are tuxedo rentals available at the destination?
Some destinations offer tuxedo rentals off property. However, the selection of styles and sizes may be limited.

When can we expect to receive our marriage certificate?
Expect to receive you official marriage certificate 6 to 12 weeks after you return home.

Any other tips?
Yes

  • High heels don't do well in the the sand or garden
  • Relax. Pamper yourself with a massage the day of arrival or the day after.
