Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France. The Guadeloupe archipelago consists of Grand-Terre, Basse-Terre, and several smaller islands in the eastern West Indies. The two large islands, separated by La Riviere Salee, form a distinctive butterfly shape with wildly diverse geography.

Grand Terre (the eastern side) has rolling hills and flat plains, and gets little rainfall. Basse-Terre (the eastern side) is volcanic in origin and has beautiful rain forests.

The beaches are quite diverse. From white-sand beaches to volcanic black-sand beaches. Explore the underwater world of coral reefs with scuba diving, snorkeling, by submarine or glass-bottom boat. Hike through lush mountains! Visit a rum distillery! Enjoy the creole cuisine.
